Layla Ware de Luria’s Biography:

Layla Ware de Luria serves as the Executive Director of Centro de Apoyo Comunitario and is a clinical social worker who specializes in interdisciplinary practice. As a former lecturer at the University of Pennsylvania Carey School of Law and a senior social worker at CHOP Layla worked to incorporate holistic and trauma-based practices into medical and legal interventions. In her clinical role, Layla has worked with the Spanish-speaking community for over 25 years and specializes in psychosocial issues of transnational family reunification, intimate partner violence, acculturation stress, and trauma. Layla’s work at Centro de Apoyo focuses on leadership development within the Latin American community of Upper Darby and coalition building across immigrant and immigrant-serving communities. Layla has made it her mission to help the Latinx community use its strength and voice to advocate for their needs and partner with policymakers, stakeholders, and surrounding communities to enact community-based reforms.  Layla has interviewed hundreds of people in various stages of the immigration process over the years and has a strong appreciation for the resilience of the immigrant community. She believes that immigrants’ voices are critical and need to be included in all areas of advocacy, policy, and reform efforts.
