At Ohev Shalom’s Mispallelim religious school, we seek to help our students build Jewish knowledge, as well as a sense of Jewish community and identity. As a staff, we continue to seek new ways in which to help our students have spiritually authentic Jewish experiences and to ask meaningful Jewish questions at every developmental stage. We believe that, beyond passively “receiving” a Jewish education, students and families have the exciting task of actively constructing their own Jewish identities, as they encounter inspiring ideas, surprising experiences and caring role models. We aspire to give our families the tools to do that work in a way that engages the whole person – heart, intellect, body/senses, and spirit.
Thanks to our teachers, aides, students and families for a wonderful year!
Mispallelim in the coming year
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the coming year will be unlike anything we have experienced or planned for in the past. Fortunately, we have a really wonderful team of teachers and lay-leaders working on different possibilities for instruction. We will most likely embrace a hybrid model, with some parts of the year conducted in person and others conducted remotely.
When we are "on site" we will practice a range of safety measures, including masking, hand-washing, and holding only small-group sessions. Depending on conditions, we may exclusively meet outdoors for periods of time. We are committed to making meaningful Jewish education available and accessible to all of our families, and welcome any feedback regarding safety protocols and remote learning accommodations.
While the realities of the pandemic certainly present challenges, the creative thinking that we are undertaking right now will also, undoubtedly, present opportunities and ideas that we might not otherwise have explored. I am looking forward to a fruitful, fascinating, and *different* year together!
