If there's a death in your family

Note: these steps are also listed in a shorter form on the last page of your Sisterhood Directory. Rabbi Robbins is available to consult on all ritual issues involving death and mourning.

  1. Call Rabbi Robbins at the Synagogue Office at 610.874.1465, or at home at 610.891.0298, or on his cell phone at 610.291.1760

  2. Call Al Mendel of Goldstein's Funeral Directors, Inc at 215.927.5800. Members are encouraged to use Goldstein's. They will assist you with all arrangements. If you use another funeral director, please tell them to contact the synagogue office.

  3. If there is a reserved gravesite at Ohev Shalom's Brookhaven Cemetery, contact Cemetery Chairman, Stanton Myerson, at 610.876.6817, or 610.291.0747.

  4. When making your arrangements, please remember to let the synagogue know of any particular fund to which donations in memory of your loved one should be made, and also let us know of any Shiva arrangements, so that we may notify your congregational friends by email and phone tree.

  5. To order a Yahrtzeit Memorial plaque, contact Michael Muderick in the synagogue office at 610.874.1465. Remember, when ordering a memorial plaque, you will automatically be notified of the Yahrtzeit date. If you do not order a plaque, and wish to be notified, just let the synagogue office know.

  6. Members are encouraged to use Wertheimer Monument Company for grave markers and monuments. Contact Israel Resnick at 215.333.1222. If you choose another monument company, please be advised that all inscriptions on the stone must be approved by the synagogue rabbi. In addition, the monument company must contact the cemetery chairman, Stanton Myerson, or the synagogue office for cemetery fees and regulations.
