Torah Layning Corps

Always wanted to learn how to read (or "layn") Torah or Haftarah? Want to join Ohev's TLC (Torah Layning Corps)?
The TLC is approximately 30 volunteers who chant the portions from the Torah and Haftara on Mondays, Thursdays, Shabbat and holidays. We are always looking to expand our ranks! We depend solely on volunteers for our success.

There are several tools to assist novice layners. The Ohev Library has copies of the phenomenal software, Trope Trainer. This makes it fun and easy to learn trope (Torah and Haftarah melodies), at your own pace. Want to test it out? Go to Kinnor.com. Navigating the Bible II is also available in the Ohev Library and can be accessed online.

Better than the above is the training available from our Bar/Bat Mitzvah tutor, Cantor Steven Friedrich, cantorsf@comcast.net. He is happy to schedule individual appointments with you to guide you in your learning. This can be supplemented by to review your upcoming Torah reading with Rabbi Robbins or one of our other experienced layners. Contact either Rabbi Robbins at the synagogue, or lay readers Fran Stier, Wendy Dignazio, Amy Graham, Kathy Elias or Lou Stesis.

If you are interested in layning, please email Stanley Schneider, stanleys26@yahoo.com, or at 610 544-0380.
Tapes and CDs are also be available for those interested in learning how to lead weekday morning services, Shabbat morning services, and Holiday morning services. To lead parts of all of Shabbat services on a day when Cantor Acker is not present, please contact Andy Szabo at aszabo9392@aol.com, or at 610-543-2173.
