Mispallelim is a Hebrew word that means “pray-ers”, and that’s exactly what we are: People who learn how to pray. The main goal of our highly qualified faculty is to teach our students how to be comfortable and competent in the synagogue. Our students learn not only how to recite prayers and blessings in Hebrew, they are also taught what it means to pray, how each of us individually, and as a group, can communicate with the Creator of All in meaningful dialogue. Thus, our students learn how to establish a relationship with God that is meaningful to them.
It is also the goal of our school to establish a relationship for our students with their heritage, a firm foundation in Jewish culture that will tie them to the history and people of Israel, while preparing them to be the Jewish leaders of the future.
Mispallelim fully meets the standards of the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, with the following schedule of classes:

Confirmation Class (8th, 9th and 10th grade)
Ohev Shalom’s Confirmation class is a program for students who want to continue their Jewish education, and who want to learn what it means to engage with Judaism as an adult. Our program focuses on asking questions. How did the rabbis understand the Torah, and how did they make it meaningful for their time? How can we employ that strategy to make Judaism meaningful for us today? We meet twice a month, and each session begins with a pizza dinner and ends with great discussions and insights. The program runs on a three-year cycle, so that the material is new every year. In the spring, our 10th graders will develop a teaching of their own to present at a year-end celebration.
